About Biztaxadvisor.com

Welcome to Biztaxadvisor.com! I hope that you have enjoyed looking at my site and that you will visit again.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Sverre and I started this web site all the way back in 2001. At that time I was working as a tax professional, but I was eager to learn about the internet. So I started this site mainly as a hobby project; I figured that I knew some things about business taxes that could help small busines owners just starting out. I had only a handful of pages on topics like obtaining your federal tax id number quickly, irs mileage information, tax deductions for small business, etc.. To my great surprise my web site got a lot of traffic, so when I changed jobs a couple of years later, I decided to keep the web site up and running. I liked receiving the thank-you emails from happy visitors, and it made me feel good that small business owners found the information helpful.

Although this site is not about promoting myself, you might be wondering about my business credentials, and I'm happy to share that with you. I've got a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of San Francisco (1993). I also hold two professional certifications - Certified Internal Auditor (from the International Association of Internal Auditors) and Certified Fraud Examiner (from the Association of Fraud Examiners). Throughout the years, I have helped countless small business owners with their accounting, tax planning and IRS problem resolution. I've found this work to be very rewarding. Many business owners dislike dealing with the tax aspects of their businesses, and many of them are terrified by the IRS. Tax laws and regulations may seem overwhelming, and it has been my goal to convert concepts that business people find complex and overwhelming and break it down into terms that ordinary people who are not accountants or bookkeepers can understand.

In 2004, I started my employment as a financial policy editor/project manager for a large Health Management Organization (HMO) located in Oakland, California. I remained in their employment for 6 years, and although my job duties there do not relate to this web site, I will just say that I enjoyed working for a multi-billon dollar organization with a worthwile purpose. Needless to say, I did not have time to maintain this web site during that time, although I kept making it available on the internet.

Fast forward to April 2011. My previous employment has just ended, and while I am trying to figure out what I want to do next, I decided I would like to add content to this web site and see if I can improve upon it. And, that's where you, the visitor come into the picture!

I need your help!

If you have taken the time to look at this page to see what my website is all about, you are in a position to help me improve upon this site and make it one of the top business tax resources on the web. After all you are the visitor, which means that you are the person for whom Biztaxadvisor.com was created. What's in it for you? Well, you get to have input into the content of this site, and you get to know that by doing that you are helping others looking for the same information. Also, you get to tell all of your friends "See that page? I told him to write that!" ;)

I have so much I would like to share and write about that it is a bit challenging to determine what to tackle first, what adds most value to you, the visitor. Here are some of the topics I want to add some in-depth articles about as well as general ideas for this web site:

  • A tutorial on setting up a simple/advanced book-keeping system.
  • An article about how to find a good local tax advisor or accountant.
  • In-depth information about specific tax deductions, e.g., Home Office Deduction.
  • A referral directory listing competent tax attorneys, accountants and bookkeepers by state.
  • An eBook on how to set up a small corporation for your business.
  • A Quickbooks Tutorial for S-Corporations; how to set up your accounting system from scratch.
  • A section on specific IRS problem related topics, e.g., tax liens, wage garnishments, installment agreements, Offer in Compromise, late return filing.
  • A tutorial or section on what to expect from and how to prepare for an IRS audit.
  • Industry Specific Tax Information, e.g., "Taxes for Web Based Businesses".
  • A small business community tax forum where business owners can ask questions and tax attorney's, CPAs, EAs and other tax professionals can participate and provide answers to specific questions.

These are all great ideas, and I have more. However, I would like to start with adds most value to you, the visitor. I would greatly appreciate if you would take a minute of your time to complete the brief survey below. Let me know what you would like to see first on this site. Let me know which suggested topics you would like to learn more about, or perhaps you have ideas that I haven't thought about. I greatly appreciate your help.
